:help Friend has 09 GMC LMM Allison stealership says crank is broken. $10,000 to fix. 175,000 miles. He says coming down big hill with turbo-brake on. The pic shows the reluctor wheel hub and oil pump gear misaligned with the crank. That pin broke for sure. Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it. You should be able to pull that off with a puller. Remove factory crankshaft bolt, using a 12point 36mm socket. Place the drilling guide onto the crankshaft. After that, clock the fixture 180 degrees from the existing factory key. Install the supplied bolt hand-tight with a ratchet or wrench. Do not overtighten! One of the Duramax cranks I saw pictures of was running perfectly with the crank broken in two, at an angle in one of the mainbearings. They only noticed it when they tore it down to "hop it up". Flip the engine, oil pans off, pop all the rod caps off and push the pistons up in the cylinders, pop the main caps off. Putting it back together is tricky, but still possible. Sounds like a spun bearing to me, probably connecting rod. When it goes into reduced engine, the ECM turns off the injector on the cylinder that is knocking, and it goes away. That pin broke for sure. Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it.
