Dana 35 gear oil capacity - Agree 100% on synthetics for the diff after gear break-in and have been running syn Mobil-1 for years in all my vehicles. As for diff heat buildup, I'm a firm believer of adding a quality finned cast aluminum cover. Besides adding about 25% more oil capacity and having a convenient drain plug, they do a super job of dissipating heat.

Get some rtv gasket maker put a good bead around the plate and put it on, let the gasket sealer set for a few mins before fully tightening.Minimum spec is 80W-90, which I think is usually semi-synthetic. Or you could use 75W-90 full synthetic. Just make sure it says GL-5 differential oil on the bottle, since a lot of these viscosities overlap with transmission oils that are GL-4 spec on the package. This is also the capacity posted in the Geno's Garage tech section. The owner's manual also states to only fill to a level "3/4 inch below" fill plug hole.Definitely NOT a 10.5L Sterling, which makes the literature wrong. Looks like you need 4.0L of 75w-90 synthetic oil. Depending on brand you may need to add ~8 oz of friction modifier, Ford calls theirs XL-3. Some synthetic oils come with friction modifier, so you may not need it..
