However, as labor approaches, the cervix opens as it begins to prepare for childbirth. Some people become 1-2 centimeters dilated before they start active labor, while others start active labor without being dilated at all. I was 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced w/ the baby already at zero station with my first internal at 36 wks. The docs thought I*might* go early too -- at my last internal on Monday (38 weeks, 6 days) - I was 2 1/2 cm dilated, 80% effaced...baby still at zero station. My due date is tomorrow and I still haven't had my baby! May need to be induced. Very annoyed with on office. Just need to let it out. So last Saturday 3/9 (37+1) I had contractions all day slowly getting closer together. Around 10pm I finally caved and went in. I was 3cm dilated 70% effaced and -2. They had me walk around for an hour and a half, no changes so sent home.Just that when labor does come, maybe it won't be as long. I was dilated 3cm with my son at 36 weeks and he was born after my water broke at 39.5 days. With my daughter I was also 3cm at 36 and my water broke/she was born at 38 weeks. At my 38 week appointment today I was 2cm, 80% effaced with a soft cervix and my OB said my baby had dropped. But he also didn’t seem to think I would have it anytime soon so who knows ♀️.M.F. answers from Phoenix on November 01, 2010. I was 90% effaced and 1 cm dialated from week 35 to delivery with my first (#2 is still in my belly). If you're 36 weeks and do go into labor, don't worry. 36 weeks is considered full-term and the lungs are most often developed enough by then that there is not need for concern.July 2012. With DS (my first) I was dilated 3 cm at 37 weeks. At 41 weeks I was 5 cm and still didn't go into labor on my own. I was induced due to low amniotic fluid at 41 weeks 1 day. With DD (my second) I was all closed up at 38 weeks and was then induced due to pre-e. I hope early progress means more for you, but it really doesn't matter..
